How to Clean Something began with cleaning.
It did not stay there.
I’m Claire Mercer, married with two children, and have spent enough years looking after a home to realize that cleaning something is usually connected to ten other things.
You clean the kitchen and suddenly notice the cabinets need organizing.
You organize the cabinets and realize one of them would work better with another shelf.
You add the shelf.
Then you decide the handles look terrible.
Three days later, apparently you are renovating the kitchen.
This is how these things happen.
What I Write About
How to Clean Something is about making ordinary homes cleaner, easier to use, more organized and more enjoyable to live in.
Things like:
- cleaning and stain removal
- organizing and decluttering
- storage
- home decor
- room makeovers
- IKEA hacks
- furniture makeovers
- beginner-friendly DIY
- paint and wallpaper projects
- household maintenance
- kitchens and bathrooms
- outdoor living
- patios and backyards
- secondhand finds
- budget-friendly home improvements
I am especially interested in projects where a fairly ordinary object or room can become much better without tearing the entire house apart.
Sometimes a room needs renovation.
Sometimes it needs a different lamp and somebody to finally move the chair.
Knowing the difference can save quite a lot of money.
